  • International Medical and Technological University (IMTU) was the first private medical university in Tanzania established by the Vignan Educational Foundation (VEF) of Bangalore, India.
  • At the invitation of Late Mwalimu Julius K Nyerere, the First President of Tanzania the VEF organization moved to Tanzania with its resources to build IMTU.
  • The University was inaugurated by Shri. I.K. Gujral, then the Honorable Prime Minister of India on September 17, 1997.
  • Over 1000 students consisting of majority Tanzanians along with students from other parts of the world live learn and play in the sprawling University campus, located by the Mbezi beach area of Dar es Salaam.
